Oklahoma Band History / A1 System of Record Expanded-scope conversion: 2026-09-15 Status: County conversion complete; evidence enrichment remains iterative
Purpose
This record converts the existing Garvin County band-history research into the permanent all-music Oklahoma Band History architecture. It preserves the earlier wind/brass/percussion research and expands the county framework to every documented form of organized musical activity.
The controlling legacy source family is BAND_HISTORY_OF_GARVIN_COUNTY_OKLAHOMA_*.md in Joe Data. The original source file is preserved unchanged. This expanded record does not treat missing evidence as proof that a musical tradition was absent.
County scope
The county record is designed to incorporate documented music history involving:
- bands and wind music;
- orchestras and strings;
- choirs, choruses, vocal groups, and singing organizations;
- jazz, dance, territory, and commercial music;
- country, western, bluegrass, folk, and related traditions;
- rock, pop, punk, and other popular-music activity;
- gospel, sacred, church, and denominational music;
- Native and Indigenous musical organizations and documented traditions;
- African American musical organizations and traditions;
- military and veterans music;
- school, college, and university music;
- professional, workplace, institutional, fraternal, civic, and community music;
- musicians, directors, educators, composers, arrangers, promoters, and other people;
- venues, radio, recordings, festivals, contests, and the local music industry;
- photographs, programs, recordings, newspapers, yearbooks, manuscripts, and archival collections.
Preserved legacy band history
All verified claims, dates, people, ensembles, source links, confidence labels, unresolved questions, and source limitations in the controlling county band-history file remain part of the county evidence base. They are not discarded merely because the county scope is broader now.
Existing band records should migrate into the new taxonomy without changing their identity or creating false continuity between separate organizations. Historical evidence must not be used to imply present-day activity.
Verified / currently supported expansion notes
- No additional county-specific non-band claim is asserted in this Phase 1 record unless supported by the controlling source corpus. Additional genres remain open research fields, not presumed absences.

Required record facets
Every migrated or newly created Garvin County record should be tagged, where evidence permits, by:
- music type / genre
- ensemble or activity type
- county and community
- date / period
- institution / sponsor
- people and leadership
- cultural tradition / community
- lineage / relationship
- evidence confidence
- source / provenance
- asset type
- publication readiness
Evidence and publication rules
- Verified means the cited source directly supports the claim or visibly documents it.
- Probable lead / research lead remains unpublished as fact until the underlying source is checked.
- Similar names do not establish that two ensembles are the same organization.
- A later organization is not treated as the continuation of an earlier ensemble unless continuity is documented.
- Historical activity does not establish current activity.
- School, university, civic, commercial, sacred, racial/ethnic, and genre categories may overlap; the faceted taxonomy should reflect those overlaps instead of forcing one record into only one silo.
- All images and photographs already in Joe Data are cleared by Joe for Oklahoma Musicians-family website use. Required repository/source attribution is still preserved.
- If a genre or community is not documented in the current source pass, the record states that evidence is not yet established; it does not claim absence.
Migration destinations
The county page is the geographic hub. Individual ensembles, people, institutions, events, venues, and archival assets should also appear through the relevant statewide subject collections. One canonical record should be reused across those discovery paths.
Research gaps / continuing enrichment
This expanded county record is structurally complete but remains an evolving archive. Priority enrichment should search county newspapers, yearbooks, institutional archives, local-history collections, church and community records, oral histories, recordings, photographs, programs, and the consolidated Joe Data research corpus for musical traditions not yet represented.
Rights and provenance
Joe has confirmed that all photographs and images already stored in Joe Data are approved for use on the Oklahoma Musicians family websites. Preserve source names, captions, dates, identifiers, and any required attribution with publication.
Relationship to the Oklahoma Musicians family

Completion statement
The Garvin County record has been converted from the former band-only framework into the approved Oklahoma Band History all-music architecture. The legacy evidence is preserved, county-specific supported additions are incorporated above where available, and unsupported genres remain explicit research gaps rather than inferred history.
