Pawnee County

Musical history, people, ensembles, photographs, and source material from the Oklahoma Musicians Library.

The musical history of Pawnee County.

Pawnee County has verified school-band evidence by 1976, supported by a surviving Pawnee High School yearbook. `(high)` The 1976 *Bruin* identifies Don Cooksey as the teacher for band and music appreciation and lists students participating in band across the senior, junior, sophomore, freshman, and lower-school sections. `(high)` The same yearbook documents the county’s school consolidation history, including Maramec, Blackburn, Skedee, and numerous rural schools feeding the Pawnee system. `(high)` Earlier band chronology remains incomplete, but the county has unusually valuable newspaper and yearbook leads beginning in the 1890s.
